Ryno are proud to pledge support to the National Federation of Roofing Contractors' (NFRC) most recent campaign, the #Safe2Torch campaign.
By encouraging those working in the roofing industry to pledge their support to the Safe2Torch campaign and adopt safer working practices, The NFRC hope to eliminate fire-risk. Roof edge trim, vents and other roof finishing products for the Flat Roofing industry make up a major part of our product line at Ryno. As such, much of our customer base is made up of roofing and waterproofing contractors, manufacturers and merchants. Knowing the campaign aims to protect people and property as well as improving the image of the flat roofing industry, it was clear we needed to get involved.
A hefty 15% of all fires on commercial and industrial properties are caused by hot works. Because of the risks involved in torch-on roofing methods, many property owners have prohibited the use of gas torches on site. Despite their negative reputation, gas torches don't immediately increase risk. When operated safely, gas torches provide an effective way to dry out roofs and lay membrane.
The Safe2Torch campaign is a reassurance to property owners that the contractor they have chosen understands when it's safe to use gas torches when laying roofing membrane and when its better and safer to choose an alternative – flame-free – fixing method. The NFRC estimate flame-free methods (such as adhesive or mechanical fixings) are required in at least 50% of all flat roof installations in the UK. When a property owner engages with a contractor and/or manufacturer who has pledged to support Safe2Torch, they can be assured that the roof works will be undertaken within the requirements of the campaign guidance.
We look forward to seeing Safe2Torch continue to gain attention and make the roofing industry safer for all.
