This month’s winner is Phil from PCS, who used Ryno self-levelling adjustable pedestals to help get their clients project back on track and looking great after it fell behind schedule.
The contractor needed an efficient way to lay paving across flat-poured concrete podiums and terraces, in order to create usable communal spaces.
The project – construction of a luxury retirement village – was running three months behind schedule before the contractor got involved. As a result, there wasn’t a lot of time available for the development of the communal outdoor terrace space which was to be a formal phase of the project. These time constraints, on top of a tight budget and the unpredictable UK weather were all threatening the advancement of the project even further.
The decision was taken to install an inverted tapered EPS roofing insulation over the concrete surface and cured waterproofing layer for effective and consistent thermal performance. Ryno self-levelling adjustable paving pedestals were laid to support the paving.
The pedestals are self-levelling, which allows them to account for large changes in surface level and they have a wide supporting base, which creates an evenly spread load on the surface below, ensuring the membrane is protected regardless of footfall.
The simple design of the paving supports also mean they are extremely easy to install: pedestals are simply lifted into place and after slabs are laid, pedestals can be height adjusted either by hand or with a pedestal adjustment key.
